People ask me all the time. What should I tweet about? The answer is simple. You can tweet about anything, and everything, or just your business. You can tweet your Instagram photos — and as long as you put some hashtags on — it’s likely someone will find your photo and follow you.
You can learn about Twitter and get some ideas about what to tweet by watching what other people are tweeting. Go to www.twitter.com, or open the twitter app on your mobile device, and click on the search icon. Here are some words that you might start with!
- Pilates
- Yoga
- Social Media
- DWTS (Dancing With the Stars)
- #Voicebattles
- #ScandalABC
- #Idol
Why did I start with these words? Two reasons. You are likely trying to promote your business and Twitter is very popular in American pop culture. The way to learn what people relate to and engage with, is to watch what people are doing. If you’re watching something on TV, and they’re showing a hashtag (pound sign) label on the screen — it’s a safe bet that people are tweeting, and you’ll be able to watch and learn. Some shows, like “Dancing with the Stars” and “The Voice”, even show some tweets on the screen. That’s one of my fun bucket list items. Get one of my tweets seen on national tv!
You’ll notice that some of the items on my list have a hashtag (pound sign) in front of them. You can read more about hashtags here. Having a hashtag in front of your search word, means that you are asking Twitter to search thru tweets, not just for people who used that word, but people who “cataloged or hashtagged” their tweet with that word. They thought that their tweet would be interesting to people who catalog their tweet with that word/acronym. One thing to remember –hashtags don’t have spaces. You can string words together, but you can’t use spaces — like #MarchMadness.
Tune in next Tuesday, for more Twitter hints!
