Do people “see” your retail products?
Last week after my session at Rivercity Pilates I realized that the retail display on the front desk hadn’t been changed in a couple of months and frankly, it looked a little helter skelter. There were random tee-shirts, alignment socks and braided towels. At the time, I just wanted it to look better, so I didn’t bother taking a “before picture”. I just went to work. I took everything off the display – so I could start with a blank slate.
I picked out some summer workout tees, and then I grabbed some Toesox from the Toesox rack. There were only a few Toesox that blended well with the pink and violet tees. But I knew that I needed more for a display. So I chose a few, and took 2 pairs of each choice to make the display appear thoughtful, planned, and relatively easy to look at. I took a pic for social media, and went on my merry way.
Yesterday I got an email from Carey (studio owner) that said she couldn’t believe it, but there were surprising and positive results. The surprising part was that 3-4 people had either commented or purchased socks. Why is this a surprise? One of those people works in the studio, and a couple of the others were students that are in the studio 4-5 times per week. The kicker? These Toesox had been in the studio for over a month and some of them had been in inventory even longer, however everyone was assuming that they were brand new styles just because it was the first time they noticed them!! All we did was change the display! When I went to the studio for my session yesterday there were noticeable holes in the sock display – and an empty hanger from a shirt someone had purchased. So I fixed it up again!
If your studio gear/products aren’t selling, just think abut changing your display!
