If you have a business, yes, you need a blog. Why? There are stats that say a website with blogs will have over 50% more visitors (exact stats vary by source).
- A blog will help drive traffic to your website.
- A blog will help you convert that traffic into leads.
- A blog will increase the ability for search engines to find your website (more content for a search engine to find!) .
What will you blog about? Keep a log of the questions prospective customers ask when they call you on the telephone for the first time. Think about the questions your customers have asked you over the last 2-3 weeks. If someone is wondering about something, chances are that others are also wondering, and they can get a sense of you and your business through your blog.
I don’t know, maybe I love blogging because I’m an only child. When I grew up on the farm, I had a pony, we had 2 dogs, and dozens of cats, and I talked with them. My dad even made me say “please:, “thank you” and “excuse me” to my pony. Years later I would be in the barn, asking my horse how he felt today, and my dad would answer for the horse from another part of the barn and scare the $#*@ out of me, because I didn’t know my dad was anywhere close. One sided conversations are easy for me because my pony rarely answered! I practiced my persuasive speeches on my pets on the farm all through school. Blogging for business is about being willing to put you and your business “out there” for anyone to see. If there’s a purpose behind the things you do, don’t expect people to figure it out. Help them see what you’re about. Blog.
Your blog can be an outlet. An outlet to explain the things that people don’t understand about your business. Why do you make someone learn a certain skill before you let them use a piece of equipment by themselves. Could they injure themselves? Do they even realize it’s a possibility?
Your blog can be educational. Weird as it may be, there are a whole lot of people that believe if they read it on the internet, it is true. Sometimes people take time to process information they read, time that they might not take to understand what you are saying in a conversation.
Most importantly, your blog allows people to connect with you, and everything is about connections these days. Need help starting your blog? There’s a zillion websites with directions, there’s videos on You Tube, or you can just give Farm Girl a call.
