One of the guilty pleasures of my semi-retirement is that I watch a lot of TV — probably way more than I should, but it’s easy cuz i can work from a gadget most anywhere.
Today on GMA I saw a performance by a singer (Mary Lambert) that inspired me to look her up and learn more about her. To be honest — I was impressed by her “presence”. She’s a curvy woman, and she was wearing a crop top and looked totally comfortable with herself. As I read her bio, I was more impressed. Her success has happened over the past 5 years and started when she was working three (count them — THREE) restaurant jobs. She’s a unique individual with a painful past who has embraced who she is, and during her song this morning on Good Morning America she looked so joyful!
Her new album is funded entirely by a Kickstarter campaign. What a powerful example of how digital and being your authentic self has changed the world. Her Kickstarter campaign ultimately raised 80,000 dollars, but in the first 8 hours, it raised $20,000. I can’t imagine!!!! I don’t know much about the music business (I did learn a little watching the show Nashville on TV) but I assume that even just a few years ago, she would have been shopping for recording label and trying to make a producer and label happy without sacrificing her own ideas and that’s why Mary Lambert is our Friday Inspiration!
